The AI race is often framed as a pure technology competition. But another battle is quietly emerging: the battle for trust. And in that space, Anthropic might be playing a very different game. While most AI companies are racing for scale, distribution and market dominance, Anthropic has built its entire positioning around AI safety, governance and responsible deployment. And recent events highlight that difference. Over the past weeks, Anthropic entered into a major conflict with the U.S. Department of Defense after refusing to remove safeguards on how its models could be used by the military. The Pentagon asked AI labs to allow their models to be used for all lawful purposes, including sensitive areas such as weapons development or intelligence operations. Anthropic refused. (Forbes) The company has drawn two clear red lines: • No mass domestic surveillance• No fully autonomous weapons systems (Forbes) The disagreement escalated to the point where the Pentagon considered cutting ties with Anthropic and even designating the company a “supply-chain risk.” (The Wall Street Journal) In contrast, competitors have shown more flexibility. OpenAI recently reached an agreement allowing its models to be deployed within U.S. defense systems, raising internal debate about how much control the company truly has over how its technology is used. (WIRED) This is where the European angle becomes interesting. Europe is currently building one of the strictest AI regulatory frameworks in the world with the AI Act, emphasizing safety, transparency and accountability. In that context, a company positioning itself around strong safety principles and clear usage limits may actually find a natural resonance with European regulators, companies and institutions. Which raises a simple question: Could Claude become the most EU-friendly AI model? Time will tell. But the positioning is clearly taking shape. Article 02 Claude is landing in Barcelona Last week we hosted the first Claude Code event in Barcelona. The room was packed and the energy was exactly what you would expect from a city where the AI ecosystem is exploding right now. Following this momentum, The Tech Nation and AI Summit Barcelona, in collaboration with Happy Operators, are now officially organizing Claude Code events in Barcelona once a month. Barcelona is quickly becoming one of the most active AI hubs in Europe, and these meetups will be a place where builders, founders and operators can explore the future of AI together. The next edition will take place on April 9. The registration link will be shared in preview in the next newsletter. Stay tuned. Article 03 “I don’t know how to prompt” is the dumbest sentence in AI We hear this sentence all the time. “I don’t know how to prompt.” Honestly, this might be one of the dumbest sentences in AI right now. Prompt engineering has been massively overhyped. Outside of very advanced technical use cases, you don’t need magical syntax or secret formulas. You just need to talk to your AI like you would talk to a colleague. Imagine a new colleague joined your team yesterday, and you need them to deliver something by tonight. You would explain the context, the objective, the constraints, what success looks like and maybe share a few examples. That’s exactly how you should talk to an LLM. The only real rule is simple: Give as much context as possible. Bad prompt: “Write a LinkedIn post about AI.” Better prompt: “I’m a founder in Barcelona. I want a LinkedIn post about AI that sounds confident but not arrogant, around 120 words, with one strong hook and a closing question to drive comments.” Same tool. Completely different result. So next time you think “I don’t know how to prompt”, remember: You already do it every time you explain something to someone. The rise of fractional tech team AI is making technology easier to build than ever. But it also creates a new paradox. If tech becomes easier to build, it also becomes central to almost every business. And yet, surrounding yourself with the right tech people remains incredibly hard. Hiring a great CTO.Recruiting strong engineers.Building a full tech team. It’s expensive, slow and often unrealistic for many companies. This is why fractional models are emerging everywhere. Fractional CFOs exist.Fractional CMOs too. We believe the next logical step is fractional tech teams. Not just one advisor, but access to a complete team able to design, build and ship products when you need it. This is exactly what we are building at The Tech Nation.
